THE ELEPHANT AND THE PEG

The Elephant and the Peg Reflection Story

The Elephant and the Peg Reflection Story

Shortly after a baby circus elephant was born it was tethered to a large peg driven into the earth. At first, it tried to free itself but the peg was too much for the young elephant and he couldn’t budge it. Although his attempts to get free of the peg continued for a little while he finally gave up and stopped trying altogether.

Two years passed and when the elephant wasn’t performing it continued to be tethered to the peg. By this time the elephant had the strength to rip the peg out of the ground as if it were a toothpick. The amazing thing was that even with the super strength the elephant now possessed he never ever tried to free himself from that peg again. The perception developed in his youth stayed with him and prevented him from acting.

Reflection Question:  What are some perceived obstacles that you have allowed to hold you back in the past?  OR What are you doing to challenge the notion that there is something you cannot do?
